What helped me turn a corner and reverse the trend is getting sick.

I had attacks where I felt that I would pass out and had to eat sugar fast it would fix the problem in minutes! Also my sight would go yellow and blurred for almost an hour. My nerves and muscles would twitch and so on!

Loosing sight probably scared me the most. When I started researching what Aspartame was, I was disgusted that someone would say it’s healthy and at my self for believing face value!

It is what it is, hopefully never again!

For me there is a benefit to, I learn as well. It’s rarely that I hosted one of these events that I didn’t leave with a powerful idea or strategy.

Day 1 was no different! I picked up an idea that I need to implement and it was to have a villain in the email line that it left unresolved so when you write out it, there is a hook for the next email.

In other words you develop a storyline in the email that the readers then can be engaged in and follow the progress.

Of course this is hard to do, it requires thinking and creativity but will give entertainment value to the readers on your list.

I felt it was very powerful and can’t wait to implement it at least on my Political niche list (no lack of villains and story lines in that niche!)

In other words authority (expert) approach, almost always beat out any other!

The question is why? Why do experts get more business then the regular entrepreneurs?

So the first question of what makes someone an expert? I kind of stumbled on this by mistake.

I attended my very first Real Estate Investor Association meeting in Tampa and noticed an opportunity that as a vendor I could make some extra money selling websites, so I signed up.

That day I did my very first 1 minute sales pitch to sell investor/landlord websites.

I never sold or pitched anything in my life, especially to a crowed of people, there where about 200+ people in the room.

My pitch was simple; I basically said something like this. Keep in mind this is a very long time ago when most investors didn’t have a website:

“I managed to rent my house via a website on the internet, if you want one, I can help you build it. If this is something you think would be beneficial to your Real Estate Investing business, feel free to talk to me at the break or after the meeting”.

So basically I’m a nobody who no-one knows! I have no degree and no background. What I realized at the first break changed the way I looked at marketing for the rest of my life!

Here’s what happened. People walked up to me and started asking me questions about the internet, websites, putting pictures, maps, driving traffic and so on. In their eyes: I WAS AN EXPERT! (even that I didn’t consider myself one up to that point). Once I realized that, it changed everything!

Here’s the secret that I learned at that first meeting:

1. You don’t need anyone to declare you an expert! You don’t need a degree, or certificate or anything. All you need is for someone to perceive you as an expert, that’s it!

2. Experts attract people better then anything else! The proof is people email me, they call me, they storm me in hallways after meetings! New business will “hunt” you down if you are an expert!

3. Experts are almost instantly trusted by people. That day one landlord paid me $1500 for a website (websites where expensive back then)!

4. You can get into circles you normally can’t, for example I got invited to cruises, national meetings, became friends with people I would not dream of talking to and so on! DOORS OPEN MUCH MORE TO EXPERTS THEN NON-EXPERTS!

5. Experts don’t have to do sleazy sales pitches! Basically when you approach your product/service form authority/expert position, you just give recommendations which is way better then pitching! This one piece of advice I gave people helped them start closing deals and getting first sales once they implemented this small change in approach.

And much more. This is just the tip of an iceberg.

The big objection I got over the years from people was Dan, it’s easy for you, you’re already an expert and I’m not!So this approach will not work for me! I wish I got a dollar every time I heard something like that!

Lets look what made me an expert, it was just sticking my neck out there, that’s it.

A few days ago I had lunch with one of the top political consultants who helped a bunch of congressmen and senators get elected and he shared one big secret with me, he said what makes a successful politician is that they put their neck out on the line and most people never do and never will. He says his best political clients just go for it and ignore all the objections that stops others.

I think he got it right, to be an expert you have to be willing to stick your next out there and learn and improve as you go. The cool thing with the internet is that you can do that 100% free and with no risk to you (which is not the case in politics

Teaching without Hype

Yesterday I went to a small Florida downtown historical area to do some filming with a friend who owns a video production company and after we filmed in front of the historical courthouse and the monument to fallen WW1 and WW2 veterans, we where shocked to see only a few places left in business, more then half (looked like 2/3rd’s) where empty with FOR RENT signs on them.

An owner of a bar/restaurant ran into us on the deserted streets and I asked him is there a place to drink or eat here, and he said follow me and opened his place for the 2 of us.

He told us that the empty business was doing very bad and couldn’t cover the cost of his lease.

I was traveling for a long time outside of the United States and all this is a shock to me. What is going on I thought to myself?

Even my only bootcamp in a year, where I normally have filled up seminar rooms in the past are empty. This time I managed to attract only 12 people with the same marketing, same price, same everything and 4 already called to cancel, so I’m down to 8, I might have 3 people there this weekend. More then half of our regular customers are bankrupt and they normally come to our seminars!

So what is going on….? I’m not sure, I think all the doom and gloom on TV is taking a toll on the peoples’ perceptions, and some of it is also real.

Also the government is lying to us, like when they say what the inflation or un-employment rate is, almost everyone knows that it’s a lie, but they keep saying it anyway on TV.

I think all this dis-honesty is taking a toll. People are fed up, and rightfully so!

So what’s the solution for us small entrepreneurs?

I think we have to go back to basic values that made America great. Go back to honest products and services, honest marketing not the Hype and BS that are becoming the new “American Norm”. Go back to traditional real American values.

For the 1 or 8 people who are attending my mastermind bootcamp this weekend that is what I plan to make the topic that we all can come up with a new and better way to improve our businesses in the new “doom and gloom” type atmosphere. The new reality is here and we need to figure out how to deal with it (me included)!

More then likely that will probably be my last 2 day bootcamp, at least for 2012. I can’t even express how disappointed I am, however, I’m not willing to give up!

I love masterminding and meeting in person with real entrepreneurs, and will do so this weekend since I have been looking forward to it all year, even if only 1 person shows up, I plan to make sure it’s valuable not just to that person but to both of us, because I believe in the future of the internet and the role it plays in our overall business success!

And the internet is one part of the economy which is not in a recession or depression! Millions of American’s make their full time income exclusively online, even in this bad economy! So that is the positive focus this weekend for the few of us who will be masterminding how to take advantage of the new Internet economy.

Our marketing department is building a site for a new client in a billion dollar niche that didn’t exist 2 years ago, and now is exploding. It’s actually a 2012 doom and gloom niche and billions are being made as we speak!

Back in the 30′s in the last great depression thousands of American’s became very wealthy by looking outside the box, and this time around millions choose not to give up like everyone else, but to look at opportunity! And it’s all around us!

I was born in a communist country where the government stole money from our back account, our cars (2 times), our wheat, corn and other corps and arrested my father. That is real doom and gloom.

What we have here is tough times, and I choose to fight to help get America back towards liberty and what made it great in the first place, and give my contribution and I hope you will do the same and chose not to give up like some are doing. We are the solution!

I took a walk below the fort where the very first shot of World War 1 started on the Danube river, and I was surprised to see a plaque about a bike trail that is almost 1000 miles long.

It got me thinking what kind of person can drive a bike for 1000 miles! You would have to have some incredible persistence to go from the Atlantic to the Black sea. In any case I made a short about the first seminar I did where Peter Fortunato talked about why persistence almost always wins! Hope you enjoy it!

I never had a problem with people selling at seminars, what I hated was how they over hyped everything, so at this seminar I tried to talk to all the speakers to keep the hype down as much as posible. Well some speakers did and other didn’t (it was in their blood) even that they all agreed. Overall I was very happy with it.

My father bough about 14 years ago a Volkswagen Polo that gets like 60 to 70 miles per gallon and it’s not a hybrid. Back then I was thinking why do you need efficiency but as some Europeans are paying 8 to 9 dollars per gallon this has proved to be a smart decision. In fact in most of Europe I notice that almost half the cars are getting over 50 miles per gallon.I think this is just the start as prices go up and that is outlined in the book. Christopher also predicts more electric cars and also fewer cars as people concentrate in cities.

The other thing he predicts that was startling to me is that giants like Walmart are going to drastically transform or go bust. One thing I was surprised to hear is that Walmart had 300 what they call “Ghost Stores” which are empty abandoned old Walmarts that they have 500 full time employees selling. It takes a container ship something like $1200 dollars to get from China to New York 10 years ago but it’s 300% more now, when oil prices go up all that will be history he thinks. So America will no longer have endless supply of cheap Chinese stuff.

The author thinks that people will get very careful what they buy and fix it more often as it breaks. Also most of the stuff will be made locally due to the transportation cost. Another thing that will not be shipped from across the world is food. He thinks that will be history. Instead Christopher thinks that the food will be grown close to the cities and also within cities he thinks that the more and more people will grow food on their roofs and back yards. One interesting idea that I heard form the author is that new businesses will come up that will maintain people’s food gardens, like we have companies that maintain pools today for example.

My parents started a small garden as a hobby it produces so many cucumbers, peppers, cabbage, strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes and other food that they can’t consume it all and this is very very tiny garden. It was amazing to see this and the garden was constructed for only $300!I also see a future where more people make their own organic food as the prices go up!

Another thing the author tackles is travel. He thinks that middle class can forget overseas vacations, it’s going to be a luxury of just the elites. The price of airline tickets are going to get very expensive. He predicts most big carriers to go bust and only the small ones that become efficient like Jet Blue, AirTran and similar to survive but only on profitable routes. Most small cities are going o loose their airports! What the author things will happen is more high speed rail like in Europe connecting the cities and less people flying.

Another change that he talks about in his book is our future homes. He think higher density like 24,000 per square mile in New York is going to be our future and that will also change the site our homes. The average of 2400 square feet will be history. The home will get much smaller and become more efficient. New ways of heating and cooling will be found and he talks about them like geo, solar, wind and so on.

In any case Christopher Steiner’s work got me thinking about the subject and how it will effect small businesses like me. I think we will see more telecommuting, more virtual technologies emerging and more flexibility as people look for better lifestyles.

I read tons of very negative comments about the book online because the author is very opinionated on creating the world the way he sees it better then it is. I try to to just understand what is more likely to happen since I know in reality there is not much I can influence the outcome but would like to know what that outcome will be in reality 20 years from now.

PS: One think I do like about the book is that he puts the chapters in progression as the gas price goes up, for example Chapter $10 per gallon, Chapter $12 per gallon and so on, very interesting!

If you have stomach and time to look at an incredible presentation that goes against everything we have ever been thought then this seminar is something you should check out.

They are on Google video platform and not Youtube, and I think they will shut down at some point, so if it’s something you like check it out.

The presenter is Charlotte Gerson she is the daughter of Dr. Max Garson who has developed what is called the Gerson Therapy. This is so un-known in the population that my good friend mentioned his name and therapy and it didn’t register with me, not until I ran into this old video.

Once more please be warned that this video is VERY VERY RADICAL, but after studying this stuff for a year after I got sick, I feel that this is worth studying. There are two videos part1 and part2. Regardless if you believe what is said in the seminar or don’t, I would like to hear your opinion. My goal is to learn the truth regardless of what is is, I now realize that truth is hard to figure out.
